Product Information
Noise from the flat or room above can make it hard to relax at home. dB Panel 28 is our most popular acoustic floor panel, cutting both impact noise, like footsteps, and airborne noise, like voices and TV. Lay it over concrete or existing timber floors, or fit it straight onto joists, and finish with the floor covering of your choice.
Why choose dB Panel 28?
- Tackles both types of noise: 55dB L'nT,w impact and 55dB DnT,w + Ctr airborne performance, comfortably beating Part E targets.
- Overlay or structural: use it over concrete and existing timber floors, or fit it directly onto joists at up to 450mm centres with dB Joist Strip along the joists.
- Fast to cover large areas: each 2400 x 600mm board covers 1.44m², so fewer boards and fewer joints.
- No screws or nails: it's a floating floor. Glue the tongue and groove joints and you're done.
- Built to last: 18mm high density P5 moisture-resistant chipboard bonded to a 10mm acoustic felt that smooths out minor floor undulations.
- Trusted on new builds and refurbishments: used by developers and homeowners alike.

Robust Details

How many boards do I need?
Each board covers 1.44m², so you'll need 0.7 boards per m². For example, a 10m² room needs 7 boards, plus around 10% for cutting, so order 8. Not sure? Call us on 01928 571 856 and we'll work it out with you.
Choosing your floor finish
- Lay directly on top: engineered wood, laminate, timber and carpet.
- Add an overlay board first: LVT and lino need a smooth overlay of at least 6mm, such as Jumpax Dual Overlay Board 7mm or Acoustilay MDF 6mm.
- Not suitable: ceramic or stone tiles.
Meeting Part E
For new-build flats, Part E requires separating floors to achieve no more than 62dB L'nT,w for impact sound and at least 45dB DnT,w + Ctr for airborne sound. dB Panel 28's tested results of 55dB and 55dB beat both, and we can provide acoustic test data for most floor build-ups.
How to install
- Check the existing floor or joists are level and sound. If fitting to joists, run dB Joist Strip along the top of each one.
- Fit the perimeter strip around the edge of the room so the boards never touch the walls.
- Lay the boards felt side down, staggering the end joints, and glue every tongue and groove joint.
- Do not screw or nail through the boards, as this bridges the sound.
- Lay your floor finish on top, then trim the perimeter strip once your skirting is fitted.
Avoid the 3 mistakes we see most often
- Screwing the deck down. Every screw is a direct path for footfall noise. Glue the joints fully instead and the bonded deck won't need fixings.
- Fixing skirting tight to the floor. It bridges the floor to the walls. Sit the skirting on 2 to 3mm packers, fix it to the wall only, then seal the gap.
- Skipping the joist strip. Laying straight onto joists? dB Joist Strip goes on every joist, or the deck couples straight to the timber.
