What is the best way to soundproof a party wall?

There isn't one wall system that's right for every party wall. The existing construction, type of noise and available depth all matter. If space is limited, start with our lower-profile systems; where more depth is available, an independent wall lining may be more suitable.

Can I soundproof an existing wall?

Yes. Most existing solid and stud walls can be upgraded. The system you choose will depend on the existing construction, the noise problem and how much additional wall depth you can accommodate.

How much space will I lose when soundproofing a wall?

Will wall soundproofing stop voices and television noise?

A suitable wall soundproofing system can significantly reduce voices, television and music passing through a wall, but the final result depends on the existing construction and whether sound is also travelling through adjoining floors, ceilings or side walls.

Is it better to soundproof a wall with boards or insulation?

They do different jobs, so it's rarely a case of choosing one or the other. Acoustic insulation is generally used within cavities, while dense boards and membranes add mass. Complete systems often combine both with isolation components.

Can I install wall soundproofing myself?

Some wall soundproofing systems can be installed by a competent DIYer, but installation quality matters. For more complex walls, Building Regulations projects or unusual constructions, we'd recommend getting advice before you start.

Why can I still hear noise after soundproofing a wall?

The treated wall may not be the only sound path. Noise can bypass it through adjoining floors, ceilings, side walls and structural connections. If the remaining noise is significant, the surrounding construction may need to be assessed as well.
