Knauf dB Board – High Density Acoustic Plasterboard for Sound Insulation
Knauf Soundshield Plus 12.5mm is a high-density gypsum plasterboard designed for internal wall and ceiling systems where improved acoustic performance is required. Manufactured with a specially formulated high-density gypsum core, it is suitable for use within metal stud partitions, timber stud walls, wall lining systems and suspended ceilings as part of tested acoustic constructions.
Designed for general building applications, Knauf dB Board is manufactured to BS EN 520 and achieves a Reaction to Fire classification of A2-s1,d0. Acoustic performance is dependent on the complete wall or ceiling system in which the board is installed.

Applications
Knauf dB Board is suitable for use in:
- Metal stud partitions
- Timber stud partitions
- Acoustic Wall systems
- Suspended ceiling systems
- Residential developments
- Commercial buildings
- Schools
- Healthcare buildings
- Offices
- Refurbishment projects
The board is intended for use as part of complete acoustic wall and ceiling systems where enhanced airborne sound insulation is required.
Acoustic Performance
Knauf dB Board features a high-density gypsum core that helps improve airborne sound insulation when incorporated into tested wall and ceiling constructions. For walls we usually advise a double layer of dB Board, for ceilings we recommend a layer of dB Board and a finishing layer of Knauf Fire Panel.
The airborne sound insulation achieved depends on the complete system design, including framing, insulation, cavity depth and the number of plasterboard layers used. Acoustic performance should always be taken from the tested system specification rather than the plasterboard alone.
Fire Performance
Knauf dB Board achieves a Reaction to Fire classification of A2-s1,d0 and complies with BS EN 520.
Fire resistance is determined by the complete partition or ceiling construction rather than the plasterboard on its own.
Installation
Knauf dB Board is designed for installation onto:
- Metal framing systems
- Timber stud systems
- Wall lining systems
- Ceiling frameworks
The tapered edge allows straightforward jointing using suitable jointing compounds and reinforcing tape. Installation should be completed in accordance with current British Standards and the relevant Knauf system guidance.
Sustainability
Knauf dB Board is manufactured from gypsum-based materials and is fully recyclable where suitable recycling facilities are available. At the end of its service life, gypsum should be separated from other waste streams wherever practical for recycling.
