Product Information
dB Gold Pro Wood & Laminate Underlay
dB Gold Pro is a lightweight, cost-effective acoustic underlay designed for use beneath floating engineered wood and laminate flooring.
The 5mm folding-panel format is quick to position, easy to cut and suitable for straightforward DIY installation. Each pack contains 20 panels covering 7.2m² and includes an integrated self-adhesive joint strip, so no separate joining tape is required.
Its supportive panel construction helps create a stable base beneath the finished floor, while the gold moisture-resistant facing provides additional protection against everyday moisture. The compact pack can also be shipped by parcel, helping avoid the pallet-delivery charges associated with heavier acoustic flooring products.
Key Benefits
- Reduces impact and footfall noise beneath laminate and engineered wood flooring
- Reported impact sound reduction of 22dB
- Cost-effective option for domestic flooring projects
- Designed for straightforward DIY installation
- Lightweight folding panels are easy to handle and position
- Integrated self-adhesive joint strip reduces the need for separate tape
- Gold moisture-resistant surface helps protect against everyday moisture
- Printed cutting grid assists with accurate trimming
- Provides a stable and supportive base beneath floating flooring
- Compact parcel-friendly pack can reduce delivery costs
Applications
dB Gold Pro is designed for use beneath compatible floating floor finishes, including:
- Laminate flooring
- Engineered wood flooring
- Domestic bedrooms
- Living rooms and dining rooms
- Home offices
- Flats and apartments
- DIY refurbishment projects
- Light commercial interiors, subject to floor-finish approval
The flooring must be installed as a floating system. Always confirm that the selected laminate or engineered wood manufacturer approves the use of a 5mm panel underlay.
How It Works
Footsteps, furniture movement and dropped objects create impact energy that can pass through the finished flooring and into the structural floor below.
dB Gold Pro forms a resilient layer between the subfloor and the floating floor finish. This helps absorb and reduce impact vibration before it enters the building structure.
The panel format also provides a stable base beneath laminate and engineered timber flooring, helping support the floor joints during normal domestic use.
Construction
dB Gold Pro is supplied as folding acoustic panels with a gold moisture-resistant facing. The panels unfold across the subfloor and connect using the built-in foil overlap and self-adhesive joining strip.
- Panel core: supportive acoustic underlay panel
- Surface finish: gold moisture-resistant foil
- Joint system: integrated foil overlap and self-adhesive tape
- Cutting guide: printed grid for easier trimming
- Installation format: folding panels for floating floors

The 22dB figure is the impact sound reduction reported in the supplied product specification. The datasheet does not identify the complete test build-up or test standard. Actual installed performance will depend on the subfloor, finished flooring, room construction, perimeter detailing, workmanship and flanking transmission.
Installation Guide
- Check the subfloor: ensure the floor is dry, clean, level and free from dust, debris and protruding fixings.
- Check floor flatness: the supplied guidance considers the floor level where height variation is less than 2mm over 2.5 linear metres.
- Secure timber floors: hammer down protruding nails and securely fix loose floorboards before installation.
- Control rising moisture: where the subfloor is damp, install a suitable vapour-tight polythene damp-proof membrane.
- Protect colder floors: use a suitable membrane in cellars or on ground floors positioned above unheated rooms.
- Keep the panels dry: store the packs in dry conditions before and during installation.
- Unfold the panels: open the folding pack with the gold foil surface facing upwards into the room.
- Cut where required: trim the panels with a suitable knife, using the printed grid as a cutting reference.
- Leave a perimeter gap: maintain a 5mm expansion gap around walls and other fixed obstructions.
- Join adjoining rows: position the self-adhesive strip beside the foil overlap from the previous row.
- Seal the joint: peel back the release liner and press the self-adhesive strip securely onto the foil overlap.
- Install the flooring: lay the laminate or engineered wood flooring in accordance with the floor manufacturer’s instructions.
Do not mechanically fix through the underlay. Screws, nails or other rigid penetrations can create sound bridges and reduce the effectiveness of the resilient layer.
Why Choose dB Gold Pro?
dB Gold Pro is aimed at homeowners and DIY installers who want a practical impact-noise underlay without the weight, installation complexity or delivery cost of heavier acoustic flooring systems.
The folding panels are easier to lay than a large, tightly wound roll, while the built-in adhesive joint strip makes it simple to connect each row without buying separate tape.
Each parcel-friendly pack covers 7.2m², making it suitable for bedrooms, home offices, living areas and smaller refurbishment projects where a simple, good-value underlay is required beneath floating laminate or engineered wood.
