dB Part E System 2 (Timber Floor)

The dB Part E Systems are our tried and tested acoustic floor and ceiling build-ups that are tried and tested to achieve and exceed Part E of the Building Regulations. Every system also has a wealth of test data proving its performance. To find this, look in the Technical Data section below, where a number of test reports can be downloaded and compared.

The dB Part E System 2 is for an existing building with timber joists and brick walls. This is your typical conversion specification for traditional existing UK buildings.

This is an advanced specification based on dB Part E system 1, but with the introduction of dBoard into the ceiling instead of soundbloc plasterboard. The specification is low profile yet robust and able to receive all flooring types. System 2 is very straightforward. From the existing timber joists and either new 22mm chipboard or existing timber floorboards, install our dB Matting 15mm over the existing floor. To the underside of the joists, install Maxi Resilient Bars and 2 layers of board. This includes 1 layer ofΒ dBoard and 15mm soundbloc plasterboard. Seal the perimeter with acoustic sealant and skim plaster to finish.

All installations subject to acoustic testing to satisfy Part E of the Building Regulations, contact Floorscan for details. Ceiling will need to ensure adequate fire resistant separation to satisfy Part B of the Building Regulations. Seek specialist advice and obtain approval from the Building Control Officer to ensure your ceiling detail satisfies your fire requirement.

Take a look at the test data in the technical downloads below that have a variety of results based on whether there is an acoustic floor included. Some data is with no acoustic floor and just the ceiling specification.

Important Information

Sound Insulation Store are specialists in acoustics and sound insulation. All guidance, system information and predicted performance figures are provided for general assistance only.

It is the customer’s responsibilityΒ to ensure that the existing structure is suitable and compatible with any proposed sound insulation system. Where required, customers must seek advice from a structural engineer, building control, or another appropriately qualified professional.

Customers must also confirm whether their project requires specific fire resistance, structural, or regulatory complianceΒ measures. Any fire, structural, or regulatory approval must be obtained independently from a competent specialist.

Sound Insulation Store has worked with NCPL to produce Insul prediction graphsΒ and holds site test dataΒ on our Part E systems. These figures are intended as guidance only.

Actual on-site performance will vary depending on the condition and construction of the existing building, flanking transmission routes, installation quality, and any unforeseen site variables.

No performance level can be guaranteed unless independently tested on site after installation.
