dB FFR Resilient Layer 3mm is a low-profile recycled-rubber acoustic underlay designed to reduce impact and footfall noise through separating floors.

Supplied in easy-to-handle 10m² rolls, it provides a practical impact-noise treatment where finished floor height must be kept to a minimum.

The resilient SBR rubber layer can be installed over timber or concrete subfloors beneath engineered timber, laminate, carpet, carpet tiles, vinyl and selected stone-flooring systems.

How It Works

Impact noise is created when footsteps, furniture movement or dropped objects cause vibration to enter the floor structure. This vibration can then travel through the separating floor and be heard in rooms below or nearby.

dB FFR 3mm introduces a thin resilient layer between the structural subfloor and the finished flooring. The recycled-rubber construction helps absorb and isolate part of the impact energy before it passes into the building structure.

Its low-profile construction makes it particularly useful where door clearances, thresholds, skirting boards or adjoining floor levels restrict the available floor build-up.

Performance Data

The 53dB L_nT,w figure relates to a complete tested floor construction and is not a stand-alone product rating. The 21dB ΔL_w result was reported beneath vinyl. Actual installed performance depends on the floor construction, ceiling treatment, floor finish, perimeter detailing, installation quality and flanking transmission.

Installation Guide

1. Check the subfloor: ensure the timber or concrete substrate is level, dry, stable and free from dust, grease, oil and loose material.
2. Prepare uneven surfaces: repair or level irregular areas using a compatible flooring-grade smoothing system.
3. Acclimatise the material: allow the roll and floor finish to reach the installation-area temperature before fitting.
4. Plan the layout: cut and position the material so that adjoining sections are tightly butted together without gaps or overlaps.
5. Apply the adhesive: spread Mapei Ultrabond Eco VS90 Plus evenly over the prepared subfloor using the specified notched trowel.
6. Lay the rubber: place dB FFR 3mm into the adhesive and press it firmly into position.
7. Roll the surface: use a suitable flooring roller where required to achieve consistent adhesive transfer and remove trapped air.
8. Allow the adhesive to cure: follow the adhesive manufacturer’s open-time and curing instructions before installing the floor finish.
9. Install the final floor: fit the selected flooring in accordance with its manufacturer’s instructions.

Avoid mechanical fixings through the acoustic layer wherever possible, as these can create rigid sound bridges through the floor system.
