dB FFR 10mm Acoustic Rubber Underlay – 1m x 5m Roll
dB FFR 10mm is a recycled rubber resilient underlay that reduces impact noise such as footsteps through concrete and timber floors.
It can be laid under finished floors such as engineered timber, laminate, stone and carpet, or used as an acoustic under-screed layer in new build flats and apartments.
Each 1m x 5m roll covers 5m² and achieves an impact rating of 39dB L'nT,w and an airborne rating of 53dB DnT,w + Ctr.

Where Can dB FFR 10mm Be Used?
Under Floor Finishes
Lay dB FFR 10mm over the prepared subfloor and install your floor finish on top. It is suitable beneath engineered timber, laminate, stone flooring and carpet in homes, flats, offices and commercial spaces.
Under Screed in New Build Flats
dB FFR 10mm can be laid over a concrete floor slab with a perimeter flanking strip around the room, before the screed is poured on top. This isolates the screed from the slab and the walls, so less impact noise passes to the flat below.
It suits sand and cement screeds and liquid or proprietary screeds. The joint method differs for each (see installation below).
Not using Robust Details? Developers whose projects are not registered with Robust Details often use dB FFR 10mm as a cost-effective acoustic layer within the separating floor. In this route, Part E compliance is demonstrated through pre-completion sound testing of the finished floors.
How It Works
When a floor is walked on, the impact travels straight into the structure and is heard as noise in the room below.
dB FFR 10mm sits between the floor structure and the screed or floor finish as a resilient layer. It absorbs and dampens the impact energy before it reaches the structure.
The perimeter flanking strip stops the screed or floor finish touching the walls. This prevents sound bypassing the underlay through the edges of the room.

How Many Rolls Do I Need?
Each roll covers 5m². Divide your floor area by 5 and round up. We recommend allowing around 10% extra for cutting and overlaps.

For a glue-down installation, one 15kg tub of Mapei Ultrabond Eco VS90 Plus covers approximately 45m², which is about 9 rolls of dB FFR 10mm.
Installation

1. Prepare and Acclimatise
Clean the subfloor to remove dust, debris and loose particles, and smooth out any bumps. Fully unroll each roll in the room and leave it for at least 6 hours, preferably overnight, to prevent shrinkage after installation.
2. Fit the Perimeter Flanking Strip
Starting in a corner, fix the perimeter flanking strip along the base of every wall. This keeps the screed or floor finish separated from the walls.
3. Lay the Underlay
Unroll dB FFR 10mm so it butts up to the flanking strip, and trim to suit the room. Before bonding, check adjoining rolls for any thickness difference and reposition if needed.
4. Form the Joints
Sand and cement screed: overlap adjacent sections by up to 100mm and tape the joint.
Liquid or proprietary screed: butt the edges tightly together and tape over the joint.
Loose laid under a floor finish: butt the edges together and tape with 75mm (3") wide duct tape.
5. Glue Down (Where Required)
Fold back half of each sheet and apply Mapei Ultrabond Eco VS90 Plus with a 3mm notched trowel. Lay the underlay into the adhesive, then repeat for the second half. Roll each sheet straight away with a floor roller of at least 50lb. Leave undisturbed for 12–24 hours and keep foot traffic off for at least 24 hours.
6. Screed or Finish
For screeded floors, lay a polyethylene sheet over the underlay to stop water from the screed seeping in, then pour the screed. For finished floors, install the floor finish directly on top.
