15mm Shock Absorbing Gym Floor Underlay is a cost-effective way to boost your gym flooring's acoustic and impact performance. Manufactured from high-mass recycled SBR rubber, it creates a resilient 15mm layer beneath the finished gym floor to help control impact, structure-borne vibration and airborne noise.
It can be installed beneath suitable existing gym flooring when upgrading a floor build-up, or combined with our Terrafit gym flooring range for maximum system performance. Perfectly suited to high traffic areas affected by footfall, free weights, kettlebells, exercise equipment, loud music and structural vibration.
At 11.4kg/m², the dense rubber construction adds useful mass while helping isolate the finished gym surface from the supporting floor, making it a practical solution where strong acoustic performance is required without excessive floor height.
Our 15mm Shock Absorbing Gym Floor Underlay can be used in residential, and commercial gyms where greater impact and vibration control are required.
Gym noise can travel through a building in more than one way. Dropped weights, footfall and exercise equipment can enter the floor structure directly, creating impact and flanking sound paths. Voices and amplified music add airborne noise.
The resilient recycled rubber layer helps separate the gym surface from the structural floor, reducing direct vibration transfer. Its high mass also contributes to the acoustic performance of the complete floor construction to reduce music and speech through separating floors.
Acoustic performance note: the quoted 39dB LnTw impact rating and 56dB DnTw + Ctr airborne rating relate to the relevant floor construction in which the product was assessed or specified. They should not be interpreted as a guaranteed 39dB or 56dB reduction produced by the underlay on its own. Installed performance depends on the complete floor and ceiling build-up, junctions, flanking paths, workmanship and the type of noise being controlled.
The underlay is manufactured from recycled SBR rubber selected to provide resilience, mass and resistance to compressive loads. This makes it well suited to gym flooring where a more substantial resilient layer is required beneath the finished surface.

Make sure the floor is clean, dry, level and free from loose debris or sharp projections before laying the rubber underlay.
Measure the room and plan the roll layout to minimise unnecessary cuts and waste.
Cut the 15mm Shock Absorbing Gym Floor Underlay with a sharp, long-bladed trimming knife. Score the surface first, then pass through the cut several times rather than trying to force the blade through in one movement. This helps produce a cleaner edge and reduces the risk of tearing.
Spread your chosen adhesive using a 2mm nitched trowel, we recommend using Mapei Ultrabond Eco VS90 Plus. You get around 45 sqm coverage from a 15kg tub.
Lay the material flat over a level, even and prepared floor - butting the joints together tightly. Lay in a brickbond pattern by staggering the joints. Avoid gaps between rolls.
Install the selected gym flooring over the underlay in accordance with the floor-finish manufacturer's instructions.
Compatibility: always confirm with the floor-finish manufacturer that the selected gym tile, rubber roll, screed or other floor finish is suitable for installation directly over a 15mm resilient rubber underlay.
The 15mm Shock Absorbing Gym Floor Underlay can be used beneath suitable existing gym flooring as a cost-effective way to improve your current buildup, or, combined with our Terrafit range for maximum performance.

Example: a room measuring 4m x 3m has a floor area of 12m².
12m² ÷ 5m² = 2.4 rolls
You would therefore need 3 rolls.
This underlay is practical and cost effective compared to the more expensive 40mm gym tiles often specified under free weight areas. Where a gym floor requires greater resilience and acoustic separation without losing too much ceiling height. It's combination of 15mm thickness, 11.4kg/m² mass and recycled SBR construction makes it particularly useful beneath heavier-duty gym finishes.
The team at Sound Insulation Store describes it as a popular underlay beneath gym tiles because of its cost, performance and ease of installation, as a quick way to upgrade the performance of any gym floor.
If you are controlling noise from free weights, kettlebells, gym equipment or amplified music, speak to the Sound Insulation Store team about the complete floor construction rather than selecting the underlay in isolation.
